How do you make a video strategy measurable?
A video marketing strategy is easier than you think. To deploy video strategically, the Google's3H model or a more classic funnel model as shown below.
This model provides insight into the different phases of the marketing funnel and helps you make choices based on goals, KPIs and types of videos that are effective per phase.

Purpose: From a traditional marketing model, terms like ToFu, MoFu and BoFu can be used just fine. Choose this for a campaign and answering additional questions becomes easier.
KPIs: Consider video kPIs such as viewtime or attention span. A whitepaper download says less than a prospect watching a video in full.
- A white paper download and email address from someone who never comes back.
- Or a suspect who watches a 5-minute video in full and returns 3 weeks later.
Questions: Content creation only has value if buyer questions are answered. Make a list of questions and determine how video can help.
Content: An efficient video strategy repurposes existing content before creating new ones. This contributes to inbound marketing through video SEO.
Channels: Your goals determine the channels. YouTube and TikTok are good for branding, but B2B platforms like LinkedIn and Wistia are better for measurable funnel results.
People: A good strategy requires several people in the organization to contribute. Actors or animations can be useful, but authenticity wins.
"To execute a strategy, you often need nothing more than a smartphone, natural light and good audio."
Video marketing best-practices
Our video marketing strategy is designed to help organizations achieve results faster through a structured approach. We have selected six best practices that combine proven strategies with practical guidelines for effective implementation.
#1 - the video marketing upgrade
Start with content that is already available. Think blogs, white papers or website pages. From these, create a short video trailer (30-60 seconds) that summarizes the gist.
Examples of deployment:
- A video trailer on a download page.
- A video trailer as part of the white paper.
- A video trailer in a sales knowledgebase.
Better context & sales
Sales can use trailers as an alternative to brochures, or personalize them by adding context in emails. This increases relevance and conversion.
I - video white paper
An example: a download page with whitepaper marketing. On the left is a short trailer, on the right is the download. The bonus is trust, even when people don't download.
II - video strategy for sales
Sellers send trailers directly through. They can personalize by contextually indicating which part of a white paper is relevant.
Hi Stefan, you indicated that you are particularly interested in scalable scenarios. Check page 13 in the appendix - that fits well with your situation.
III - Social media
Use the same video for social campaigns. According to LinkedIn statistics, the average CTR of video is 0.44%. Authentic content often performs much better, provided the accompanying text is strong.
What is the role of a marketer or salesperson when it comes to creating valuable content? Ultimately, the primary goal is to answer the most important questions a prospect or customer has. That’s what makes content valuable. So let’s start with a video podcast as an example. As a general rule, we recommend creating a video podcast that’s at least 18 minutes long, following the TEDx format. And of course, you can do this with a colleague—you don’t have to be in the same location. In fact, it might even be better if you’re not, but it could also be a podcast with a customer or a key contact. Ultimately, you want to answer a number of questions, and here are a few examples. Suppose there are five questions, and the topic is video marketing. Then the first question is: What is video marketing? Why video marketing? How do I get started with video marketing, and what KPIs are there? And finally, who will produce the videos? This video podcast, in the form of a Q&A, is then converted into a long-form blog post. That’s a blog post with at least 2,000 words, with the video embedded within it. And it’s important to know that Google ranks interactive content—and visual content in particular—much higher than plain text. So adding a video will definitely help your SEO. You can then also turn this long-form post into a white paper. And now you already have several pieces of content to promote on social media or on a download page. But the best part is yet to come: you can turn this long post—this 18-minute video—into several blog posts. Since we’re talking about five questions, our suggestion is to create five separate blog posts, using each one to answer a specific question. So it would look like this: five blog posts, each featuring a short video. And where does the video come from? Of course—it’s actually an edit of this 18-minute podcast, so you’ll end up with an average video of about three minutes for each blog post. And just like that, you’ve created quite a few pieces of content from a single video podcast. And just a quick note on who creates the videos in this example: naturally, it’s your own employees, because video is all about authenticity. So why not just do that with your own people? These could be: salespeople, marketers, consultants—especially in IT companies—but any expert who thinks they have something to contribute. Ultimately, all of this comes together in what we call a “knowledge base”—which might sound a bit like an IT term, but what we mean is that the knowledge base includes videos as an alternative to written brochures that can be shared by the sales team. This allows a salesperson to pull a video from the knowledge base and personalize it by adding some text for a prospect or a customer.
1 podcast → dozens of content items. Videos are published on platforms and are available for sales.
How can you actually generate leads with video? Well, let me first share some data about gated videos. Turnstiles at the beginning of videos had a conversion rate of 16 percent. But they probably also... ...limited the number of views the video received. And turnstiles at the end of videos result in more views, but... ...only a 3 percent conversion rate. Turnstiles placed during the video... ...at the 10 to 20 percent mark yield a 43 percent conversion rate. Not bad.
Better answers & sales
Sales can record customer questions via video calls with experts. These Q&As are added to a knowledgebase and reused. The same podcast can also serve as gated content for lead generation.
#3 - the video event
An event is often an interplay between marketing and sales. The first step is to send a semi-personalized video to contacts. The secret weapon is follow-up by sales, because they can follow up more personally via video than with a phone call.
More effective follow-up & sales
Sales can follow up leads faster and warmer after an event with personalized videos. This significantly increases response rates, especially when prospects are hard to reach by phone.
#4 - the video nurture
Email drip or journey is often used for nurturing. Video makes nurturing more personal and reinforces trust. It allows the prospect to decide when the next step comes.
In this approach, a minimum of 3 nurture videos are recorded and added to the email journey. This can also be done in series, or in combination with best-practice #2.
Semi-personal video & sales
Sales has a smaller role here, but a salesperson who introduces himself via video after a download makes the handover more personal and effective.
#5 - the net promoter score
NPS is often impersonal and therefore low in response. Video makes NPS more appealing and increases engagement. This is how referral marketing really becomes feasible.
#6 - the video interview (vodcast)
An online interview via Zoom or Teams is the easiest way to share knowledge. It feels approachable and provides valuable content for marketing and sales. Interviews are ideal for giving internal experts a stage.
In conversation with sales
Interviews help sales gain strong references and deepen relationships with customers. They also provide new knowledge that can be used immediately in practice.
The BONUS
All scenarios can be reused by cutting up videos into short clips for a knowledge base. Our preference is interviews (#6) because of their high authenticity and reusability.
This allows sellers to easily share short clips via email, LinkedIn or through platforms such as Vidyard and Wistia.
How to get started with video marketing?
Video marketing is still often seen as expensive, time-consuming or complex. This is why many organizations keep it stuck at the operational level and lack a long-term strategy. The lack of a concrete playbook often ensures that video remains just an experiment.
Yet video marketing is high on marketers' priority list. Video has reached the boiling point of interest, but not yet always the point of implementation. The difference is between marketers who want it and marketers who are already implementing it.
Want to design your own video marketing strategy?
Ask yourself these questions:
- What is the objective of video marketing?
- What part of the funnel are the videos for?
- How complex is the product or solution?
- What style is feasible on a weekly or monthly basis?
- What is most valued by the B2B buyer?
- What style is realistic in terms of budget, time and commitment of people?

Most Frequently Asked Questions
What does video marketing provide?
Video marketing can lead to increased brand awareness, better customer engagement, and higher conversion rates. The results depend heavily on the type of video you want to create. A good frame for this can be found here.
When to wait with video marketing?
First of all, if you don't have a clear long-term strategy or goal then I wouldn't start it. However, the most important thing is whether you are able to answer the most important questions from your target audience. If you can't get this down on paper then video has no value. Remember, video is just a "carrier" of content, but its value is determined by how well you can tell your target audience something that inspires them or teaches them something.
How can video gating be applied for lead generation?
Video gating in marketing is a technique that uses email capture forms (turnstiles) in videos for lead generation. These forms are placed at strategic moments in the video, allowing viewers to enter their name and email address. This process allows marketers to make direct contact with interested viewers, convert them into measurable leads and then integrate these leads with e-mail marketing tools.
What does it cost to rent a video studio?
Costs vary widely depending on the quality and complexity of the production. This can range from affordable homemade videos to expensive professional productions. Renting a studio is about EUR 5,000 to EUR 8,000 per day excluding performance coaching.
What is the difference between video prospecting and video marketing?
Video prospecting is a direct, personalized approach to reaching potential customers, often with tailored messages. Video marketing, on the other hand, focuses on broad branding and promoting products or services to a larger audience. is a direct, personalized approach to reaching potential customers, often with tailored messages. Video marketing, on the other hand, focuses on broad branding and promoting products or services to a larger audience.
How do you integrate video into a comprehensive content strategy?
Don't view a video as an additional asset, but as source content. You can create multiple assets from a single strong video:
blog posts, LinkedIn posts, short social media clips, newsletter content, podcast audio, and FAQs or knowledge content. This way, video becomes the driving force behind your content production rather than just a standalone campaign.
How do you measure the ROI of video marketing?
As a marketer, you can measure the ROI of video fairly easily using three key metrics:
1. Views
2. View time
How do you decide which videos to make?
As a marketer, you can determine which videos to create by looking at where your prospects are in the marketing and sales funnel and the problems they’re facing. There are two main types of problems: unknown problems (top of the funnel) and known problems (middle of the funnel).
Top of the funnel – unknown problems
At this stage, the target audience often doesn’t yet realize there’s a problem. Videos can offer new insights and highlight problems that prospects haven’t yet recognized themselves.
Examples of questions you can answer:
- Why is our current marketing strategy less effective than it used to be?
- What opportunities are businesses in [city/region] missing out on without video marketing?
- How is video changing the purchasing behavior of B2B buyers in the region?
Objective: To raise awareness, offer new perspectives, and spark interest among potential customers in [city/region].
Mid-funnel – Common Issues
At this stage, the prospect is aware of the problem and is looking for solutions. Videos at this stage help build trust and demonstrate how the problem can be solved.
- How can I effectively integrate video into my content strategy?
- How do I measure the ROI of video marketing?
- What kinds of videos should I create for marketing and sales?
Objective: To offer practical solutions, demonstrate expertise, and guide the prospect toward a decision.

How does video marketing generate leads?
Video marketing generates leads by building trust before the first conversation.
verandert aandacht in concrete aanvragen.
How can you effectively repurpose video content?
Most of the value of video is created after it's been recorded.
By splitting a single video into multiple formats—such as short clips, snippets, and on-demand content—you can expand your reach without having to shoot additional footage.
When doesn't video marketing work?
Video marketing doesn't work when it's disconnected from your strategy.
If you create content without a plan, without a clear target audience or distribution strategy, you won't make an impact.
What is the EMPOWER video framework?
The EMPOWER Video Framework is a strategic model that helps organizations avoid producing video haphazardly and instead use it purposefully to drive impact and thought leadership. The framework shows how to use video formats (such as interviews, vodcasts, roundtables, and messaging videos) in the right order and context to refine your narrative, gather insights, and strengthen your market position. It is therefore not a funnel or a content calendar, but a blueprint for meaningful content that generates trust, visibility, and authority.

Effy Shkuri
"Our people make the difference." Really? As a former "digital workplace & IT entrepreneur," I've said this for years about my 25 colleagues. But the reality is we were only considered thought leaders by 5% of our target audience. Even today, this remains a common statement from MSPs and IT service providers. But these words lose their meaning if your expertise does not extend beyond your existing customers and a handful of prospects. I now help IT entrepreneurs with thought leadership in their niche.
