Belscript in 6 Steps
A call script is important for conveying the essence of your message in a cold call lasting no more than 2 minutes, but you do need to be given the chance to tell your story.
And that’s why the first 7–10 seconds are crucial—because that’s when the prospect decides whether or not to let you introduce yourself. Cold calling is 100% a high-level sport.
A good call script helps the salesperson focus entirely on their performance.
“How you say something is more important than what you say”
While the call script is indeed the foundation (80%) of a successful cold call, ultimately it’s the execution in every respect (20%) that determines whether you’ll secure the appointment and can move from Lead to SQL in one big step.
As far as we're concerned, the call script cannot be separated from a sales playbook. It is also one of the most complex parts of the sales process.
In our opinion, cold calling is still very much alive. The art of an effective prospecting approach lies in the salesperson’s ability to combine multiple prospecting techniques.
Interestingly, research shows that the likelihood of securing an appointment is highest when the phone is used. At first glance, this may seem contradictory, but let’s take a closer look.

3 – Personalization
Personalization is pretty much always a winning strategy. And if you do it right, you'll at least make it through the first 30 seconds.
Sometimes personalization starts right from the very beginning. Because the moment you can use the name of a mutual acquaintance, it quickly feels close and personal.
In all other cases, you'll need to do your research and figure out how to make the connection to the reason you're calling.
TIPS
- Start with a relevant fact or finding, such as: “Research shows that . . .”
- Start with a hypothesis, for example: “What we see is that this often leads to the following.”
- End with a question to engage the prospect: “Does this sound familiar?”

4 – The reason for your call
Research by Gong.io shows that call scripts that emphasize the reason for the call are 2.1 times more successful than the so-called baseline.
This, too, has its roots in neuroscience, as discussed earlier.
Be specific and don't make the reptilian brain guess why you're calling.
5 – Value Proposition
Sales: Good point.
Have you ever considered hiring a sales hunter with, say, a background in the copier or telecommunications industry, since salespeople with that kind of background don’t wait until their three-month training period is over before making calls?
Can you imagine how you'd feel if, as a potential employer, you knew right from the first week that it was going to work out?
Because imagine if you had a sales hunter who created a call script in his first week and then booked his first appointment in the second week?
Isn't that the kind of drive you want to see when you walk in?
- Present your solution: “We offer .”
- Describe your approach in simple terms: “This is how we do things.”
- Support your approach with examples, such as: “For example, we helped with .”
- Ask the prospect how this adds value
6 – Closing
Research by behavioral scientists Nicolas Gueguen and Alexandre Pascual shows that people are more likely to help if you give the other person the choice and control.
For example, their research showed that donations increased by 400% simply by changing one sentence.
Don't just ask if they'll agree; explicitly offer them the other option as well.
Sample Call Script
Of course, a conversation doesn't always lead directly to an appointment—sometimes it follows the classic Lead–MQL–SQL path
There are many possible interruptions and objections, but the goal is not to address them all during a phone call.
The goal is to address the explicit resistance and further explore the implicit resistance during the meeting.
After all, your goal on the phone isn't the transaction itself, but the opportunity to have a conversation that will allow you to influence the customer even more effectively.
Below is an example of a call script to serve as inspiration.

Are call scripts the future?
Times are changing, and the world of digital sales has given way to many alternatives for prospecting.
Research shows that buyers prefer to search for information on their own through online channels.
And, of course, an asynchronous approach is the least disruptive and “safest” for buyers.
Think of a LinkedIn message, a personal video, or a voicemail. After all, these let you decide for yourself when to read a message or respond to it. So, should we toss that call script in the trash after all?
Well, no, but that's exactly where the problem lies.
Relying solely on asynchronous communication to schedule an appointment will lead to understanding, but not to action, and rarely to an appointment.
The likelihood of securing an appointment is five times higher when engaging with prospective buyers.
The key is not to treat making calls as an isolated action or to simply increase the number of call attempts.
The goal is to restructure and vary the sequence of your prospecting approach.
A successful prospecting approach is generally based on sequencing rather than a single, isolated action.
For example, you can start with a personal video and follow up on LinkedIn.
Or you can leave a voicemail and follow up via email, but no matter which sequence you use, the phone and the call script are always part of the NEXT prospecting method.
Most Frequently Asked Questions
How do you measure the impact of personalization in call scripts?
The impact of personalization in call scripts can be measured by conducting A/B tests, in which you compare two versions of a script: one personalized and one generic. You then analyze the results based on conversion rates, call duration, and customer satisfaction scores. You can also look at follow-up rates—how often does a personalized call lead to a follow-up action compared to a non-personalized call.
What tactics work best for handling objections during cold calls?
Effective tactics for handling objections during cold calls include thoroughly preparing for common objections, active listening, showing empathy, and turning the objection into a question to gather more information. Using positive language and providing specific examples or case studies that demonstrate how others have benefited from the product or service can also help overcome objections.
How do you adapt sales scripts for different sales stages?
In the awareness phase, a call script should be informative and focused on building interest. In the consideration phase, the script should emphasize the value proposition and offer customer-specific benefits. In the decision phase, the script should focus on closing the deal, with clear calls to action and responses to final objections. For each phase, you should tailor the script to the prospect’s level of knowledge and needs.
What is the role of call scripts in a multichannel strategy?
Call scripts in a multichannel strategy ensure consistency in communication across different channels. They must align seamlessly with email campaigns, social media interactions, and other customer touchpoints. A well-integrated script helps reinforce the message and provides a recognizable experience for the customer, regardless of the channel through which they interact.
How do you determine and analyze KPIs for call script optimization?
KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for call script optimization can include: the number of appointments scheduled, the conversion rate, average call duration, and customer satisfaction scores. This data can be analyzed by tracking call results, collecting feedback from customers and employees, and comparing performance over time.
What tools can you use to measure the quality of your call script?
There are various tools available that can help measure and improve the quality of call scripts, focusing on different aspects of sales calls and customer interactions. Here are a few examples:
- Gong.io: Gong.io is a call analysis platform that uses artificial intelligence to analyze sales calls. It records, transcribes, and analyzes conversations to provide insight into what happens during sales calls. With Gong, companies can determine which aspects of their call scripts are successful and which need to be adjusted. For example, it can reveal patterns in conversations that lead to a successful sale or, conversely, cause prospects to drop off. The tool also offers coaching features and benchmarks that sales teams can use to improve their approach.
- Chorus.ai: Similar to Gong.io, Chorus uses AI to analyze sales calls. It helps identify best practices and areas for improvement in call scripts by examining the elements that positively contribute to customer engagement and conversion.
- CallMiner: This tool analyzes customer interactions at scale to provide insights into customer satisfaction, compliance, agent performance, and more. It can also be used to assess the effectiveness of call scripts and identify areas for improvement.
- ExecVision: This is a call intelligence platform designed to help sales teams get more out of their phone calls. It analyzes calls to identify best and worst practices and provides targeted coaching to improve performance.
- Zendesk Talk: Although primarily a customer service and support tool, Zendesk Talk also offers features for recording and analyzing calls. This can be used to monitor how call scripts are being followed and how customers respond to them.
When using these tools, it’s important to focus not only on what is said, but also on how it is said. The tone, pace, and sentiment of the conversations can all contribute to the effectiveness of the script. By using the analyses and reports provided by these tools, you can identify patterns in successful conversations and use these insights to optimize your call scripts.

"Our people make the difference." Really? As a former "digital workplace & IT entrepreneur," I've said this for years about my 25 colleagues. But the reality is we were only considered thought leaders by 5% of our target audience. Even today, this remains a common statement from MSPs and IT service providers. But these words lose their meaning if your expertise does not extend beyond your existing customers and a handful of prospects. I now help IT entrepreneurs with thought leadership in their niche.
