Outbound vs. Inbound Marketing

What was it again that you were going to do differently in 2022? And why, exactly? Have you stuck to that one important resolution? It really is already February 1 today. Time flies ✈️

Questions and more questions…

From a business perspective, answering the right question is a key priority for us in 2022.

Three reasons:

– B2B buyers aren't looking for blogs, white papers, or e-books; they want answers to their most important questions

– Buyers ask 7 out of 10 of their questions to Google or another search engine without consulting a “person”

– Buyers reward the “selling organization” that can effectively answer the most important questions.

The conversation begins

What did we do?

In January, we entered our “laboratory” with one thought in mind: “

"What are the 100 most important questions we can answer for our target audience?"

And then there was a moment of silence on our end…

Yesterday we wrote down the last answer.

And here's the result after three months of full-time work by two people:

– 60,000+ words on our new website

– Social Selling Playbook – 20 Questions Answered

Digital Sales Training – 10 Questions Answered

Referral Marketing Blogs – 10 Questions Answered

IT Consulting Playbook – 10 Questions Answered

– 15 blog posts – 20 questions answered

– Video Q&A – 12 questions answered

Video Marketing Playbook – 18 Questions Answered

Conclusion

The key is to answer the questions that are relevant to prospects. This is best achieved through inbound marketing, because prospects are “aware” and know what to look for. In an “unaware” situation, however, it is far more effective to use outbound marketing or sales to spark a conversation aimed at influencing an existing vision or requirements.

Inbound marketing ensures that you’re visible when your target audience is actively looking for answers. It offers the opportunity to showcase your expertise, build trust, and attract leads without any direct sales pressure. Outbound marketing, on the other hand, focuses on actively reaching out to prospects, often when they are not yet aware of their needs or potential solutions. It can be a powerful way to introduce a new perspective or create awareness where none existed before.

The key lies in combining both methods. By answering the right questions and choosing the right channels, we can address both active and latent needs. It’s not a matter of whether we should choose inbound or outbound marketing, but rather how we can integrate these strategies to communicate the right message, at the right time, to the right audience.

"Our people make the difference." Really? As a former "digital workplace & IT entrepreneur," I've said this for years about my 25 colleagues. But the reality is we were only considered thought leaders by 5% of our target audience. Even today, this remains a common statement from MSPs and IT service providers. But these words lose their meaning if your expertise does not extend beyond your existing customers and a handful of prospects. I now help IT entrepreneurs with thought leadership in their niche.
